Lerwick Jarl Squad The Lerwick Jarl Squad and Siglaheim - The Hamefarin Galley

Arriving on site at 1.10pm on Saturday 19th June

We are delighted that the Lerwick Up-Helly-Aa Jarl Squad, accompanied with the specially built Hamefarin 2010 Galley Siglaheim, will be visiting the Flavour of Shetland site at Victoria Pier on Saturday 19th July.  The squad will march from Harbour Street along Commercial Road to the the site from 1pm.

The Hamefarin Galley has been specially designed and constructed for the 2010 Hamefarin and is of a different design to that usually seen on the last Tuesday of January each year. It has proved to be a long and sometimes complicated additional project for the Up-Helly-Aa Committee and its volunteers.  Siglaheim comes from the old Norse, ‘Sigla’ meaning to sail and ‘Heim’ meaning home.  The galley will be on display during the afternoon of 19th July at the festival site until 6.00pm.
