Crafts at Flavour of Shetland

Some of Shetland’s best craftspeople will once again showcase their products highlighting the range of craft and knitwear available locally. Visitors will be able to browse through the market stalls, speak directly with producers and buy quality items.

Taking part this year are:

 

Phatsheep Photography/Phatsheep Textiles

Beautiful, artistic seascape/landscape images of Shetland by established photographer Mark Sinclair.  This is complemented by a range of bright and cheery printed cotton textiles with Shetland-inspired prints designed by Suzanne Shearer.  For more information see the Phatsheep website.

 

Nielanell

A new, dynamic textile designer producing fresh, highly original ‘art wear’ – knitwear with attitude!  Designed and made in Shetland, each garment is individually made and hand-finished. For more information see the Nielanell website.

 

Lava Jewellery Design

Lava specialised in high quality jewellery which is both designed and made by the company.  At Flavour of Shetland the company will be launching its Shetlandic Collection which uses Shetland poet Rhoda Bulter’s ‘Shetlandic’ in a new contemporary jewellery collection. Donna Smith Designs

Donna is a textile designer with a passion for felt, producing a range of products including jewellery, brooches, bags, purses and cushions.  Inspiration is drawn the environment, simple shapes and even the fabric itself to create a wide range of contemporary textile objects.  For more information see the Donna Smith website.



Shana

Sheila Newcombe and Jean Fullerton are passionate about Shana’s range of traditional knitwear and only use 100% Shetland wool and traditional patterns in their range of items – with a modern twist.  This includes six styles of handbags, cushions, scarves, gloves, pram blankets, phone holders and brooches.  For more information please e-mail -



Austin Taylor Photography

Austin Taylor creates stunning photographs of wildlife viewpoints and events from around Shetland and these are available as prints or for licensed use.  The images reflect Austin’s lifelong fascination with all aspects of the natural environment as well as his interest in photographing people and events.  For more information see the Austin Taylor website.  



Paparwark Furniture

Paparwark furniture specialises in the design and manufacture of quality furniture from a variety of hardwoods and veneers.  Cecil Tait gains inspiration from Shetland’s natural environment along with clients personal interests or hobbies to create a very personal and individual piece of furniture.  For more information see the Paparwark website.

Aamos Designs

Amos Designs are a unique and talented design company which specialises in contemporary woven textiles.  The company is motivated by original woven textiles and seek to honour traditional techniques of manufacture to create luxurious hand woven fabrics for fashion and interior.  A new collection ‘At the Bottom of the Garden’ will be launched at Flavour of Shetland 2010.  For more information see the Aamos Designs website.

 

Andrea Williamson

Andrea produces a range of colourful and cosy knitted textiles which are crafted from the softest lambs wool and local, Shetland, wool.  Her range includes blankets, cushions, baby pram sets, scarves and cheerful, decorative interior accessories.  For more information see Andrea's website.

 


Glansin Glass

Based in Unst, Cheryl Jamieson designs and crafts a unique and contemporary range of fused glassware, drawing inspiration from the every-changing Shetland scenery.  Her range includes jewellery, tableware and wall hangings.  Some of the more unusual pieces produces feature a striking combination of fused glass and locally collected driftwood.  Click here for more information.

 

 

Hnoss Jewellery

Pronounced ‘Noss’ from Old Norse meaning ‘treasure’, Hnoss produces handmade jewellery which is inspired by time.  Each piece is handcrafted from silver, rolled gold, bronze and copper using the same tools and techniques a Viking silver smith would have used.  Inspiration is drawn from various Viking treasure hoards found in Britain and Scandinavia as well as the flora and fauna of Shetland.  For more information see the Hnoss Jewellery website.

 

 

Burra Bears

Manufacturers of the original Shetland Teddy Bear, established in 1987, Burra Bears produces a delightful range of collectable bears, all handmade on the island of Burra and produced from recycled, traditional Shetland knitwear and tweed.  Each bear comes with its own name and personality, making them as individual and unique as we are!  For more information see the Burra Bears website.

 

 

WILD by Viktoria Indrica

WILD is a new Shetland-based textile design and fashion company set up by Viktoria Indrica.  All designs aim to breathe new life into Fair Isle jumpers, jackets, tops, dresses and waistcoats giving people the opportunity to enjoy and wear Fair Isle in a new way.  With 20 years design and manufacturing experience and only using Shetland wool and a bright colour scheme, these pieces will make you smile not matter how WILD the Shetland weather! Oksana Peterson Designs

Oksana makes beaded jewellery such as necklaces, brooches and earrings from semi-precious stones and silver.  A variety of glass beads and Swarovski crystals are used to create designs suitable for wear on all occasion from casual wear to bridal wear.  Inspiration is drawn from the landscapes and seascapes of Shetland. Ninian

Ninian is a locally owned and operated knitwear designer business run by Joanna Hunter.  Joanna offers a wide variety of contemporary Shetland knitwear which is inspired by vintage Fair Isle and lace designs from her own family history as well as from Shetland’s own past.  Her current collections include the original Funky Fair Isle designs and a new vintage Fair Isle range and range of textured accessories. Shetland Handspun

Shetland Handspun uses old established spinning and knitting skills to produce yarns and garments from soft handpicked Shetland fleece.
