Entertainment extravaganza lined up at Flavour of Shetland
Once again, the organisers of Flavour of Shetland are putting on an entertainment extravaganza from 21 to 24 June on Victoria Pier with musicians, children’s activities, storytelling and a Viking parade marching through the town centre included in the line up.
Organiser Nicola Halcrow explained: “A full programme of traditional and contemporary live music sessions will take place in the entertainment marquee over the four days with appearances from a variety of Shetland’s finest musicians and visiting guests. We’re very pleased to have Tom Morton join us as he broadcasts his show live on Thursday afternoon with music from Jordan Ogg, Jillian Isbister and the Mark Laurenson Band.
“Throughout the festival, Davy Cooper will be telling tales of Shetland folklore with special guests from Ireland, the Western Isles and the Highlands adding their contribution of myth and legends.
“While on Saturday afternoon, Jarls’ squads from throughout Shetland will march from Fort Charlotte to the Market Cross and is sure to be a crowd puller.
“If that’s not enough, the craft stall market gives you the chance to meet the producers, and buy high quality and unusual products with a Shetland origin or theme.
“For children, a number of activities have been organised including traditional craft activities, a soft play area for pre school children, face painting, a story/book corner, a rowing challenge and a visit by children’s entertainer ‘Cheeko the Clown’ who will be clowning around and inviting the audience to join in with magic tricks, balloon modelling and blowing giant bubbles.
“We are delighted with the showcase of high quality music, craft, culture and entertainment that we have successfully attracted to this year’s event and are confident that we have captured a real flavour of Shetland in the festival programme.
